SPECIAL - SELBY ABBEY
A Photo Club companion whose early years were spent in Selby invited me back for a day’s photo work in the Abbey of his hometown. Cathedrals and Abbey’s are full of interest - the changing style of architecture (often within one building); the often amusing carvings in wood and stone - often hidden from easy view - through which the craftsmen displayed their skill (and often their humour), and the challenge to capture something of the special nature of the building.
Local knowledge is vital when trying - in a short number of hours - to capture something of the variety of a Cathedral. Vergers and wardens can draw attention to the small details often missed (and the good vantage points).
